Orthodontics for Children at Age Seven
Dr. Dhingra and the American Association of Orthodontics recommend that children be seen by an orthodontist by age seven. There are many different reasons for children to see Dr. Dhingra at this age, including:
- To correct and guide the growth of your child's jaw to help the permanent teeth come in straight
- To regulate the width of the upper and lower arches
- To create more space for crowded teeth
- To avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions later in life
- To correct thumb sucking and help improve minor speech problems
Orthodontics for children is often referred to as Phase One treatment. It is preventive in nature and done to avoid extractions and make the second phase of treatment easier. We may use rapid palate expanders to help make room for teeth to erupt, or headgear/face mask appliances, Herbst®, or Forsus™ appliances to help correct a bad bite.
Phase Two treatment involves the finishing details, including straightening out the rest of the teeth and locking in the bite.
Braces for teens have come a long way. Dhingra Orthodontics offers a variety of treatment options for our teen patients, including metal braces, clear braces, and Invisalign clear aligners.
With any type of treatment, length will depend on the amount of tooth movement required for a perfect smile. While it may take one patient only 12 months to complete treatment, it may take another patient 24 months. Treatment times can vary depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you expect.
For the best results, it’s important to be compliant with treatment, whether it be with wearing your Invisalign aligners, only taking them out to eat and brush, or if you are in braces, wearing your elastics, following your no-no food list, and brushing and flossing your teeth.
Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many teens. While braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, braces at Dhingra Orthodontics make it easy to look good and feel good!
Great Smiles at Any Age!
Dr. Dhingra treats adult patients with the same attention to detail and compassion as our child patients. We are excited that so many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance.
Dr. Dhingra offers a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs. As an adult patient at Dhingra Orthodontics, you can pick clear or metal brackets, or if you prefer, Invisalign clear aligners.
Why braces for adults?
While gaining a beautiful smile is the obvious reason many adults choose orthodontic treatment, there are many other benefits. Straight teeth and a good bite can help with TMJ issues, chewing food, sleeping and breathing, and reducing uneven wear and tear on your teeth.
